How to choose your EVA foam?
At Cosplay & Craft, there are different foams with diverse and varied uses.
This guide was written to facilitate your choice, to allow you to know the variables of each foam and thus facilitate your choice for your next cosplay project.
There are 2 values that define each foam: density and flexibility. Resistance to external constraints is information that generally comes from the two previous ones.
Density corresponds to the quantity of material per m3 which is therefore expressed in Kg/m3
Flexibility corresponds to the ease with which you will be able to twist your foam and therefore its ability to follow your movements. The more flexible a foam is, the less "hard" it will be, whether to the touch or to handle.
So let's start with translucent foam, also called Led Foam
Designed for lighting effects on armor or accessories, this foam has a density of 45kg/m3 and average flexibility. Its low density allows light to pass through the foam, the latter serving as a diffuser.

The GN Foam or EVA45. with a low density of 45kg/m3 which is the maximum density authorized in France for live role-playing weapons, this foam is both light and flexible, inexpensive and easy to handle. It is obviously used for the "Do It Yourself" of GN weapons and also for the creation of armor prototypes at a lower cost. Once your patterns are determined thanks to this foam, you can move on to a denser foam without fear of cutting errors. On the other hand, this foam remains quite sensitive to traces and other markings (nails, scratches, friction). It must therefore be handled with care to avoid marks and other tears.

PE/EVA65 has an average density of 65kg/m3, average flexibility and fairly good resistance. It is the mid-range foam that allows you to create accessories and armor at a reasonable cost, which can be exposed to various external constraints (water, heat). It is an easy foam to handle when you are starting out and which will allow you to gain confidence and experience before moving on to higher densities.

EVA100 is a high-density foam of 100kg/m3.
The "Souplex" option gives it great flexibility, which allows creations very close to the body without being sheathed or having a "barrel" effect. With good resistance, it therefore excels in armor close to the body offering very good mobility, which is a plus, especially for going on stage.
Density: 100Kg/m3 Souplex
Flexibility:

The "Profoam" option reduces flexibility in favor of resistance, providing a perfect middle ground between EVA100 Souplex and EVA125. Lighter and more flexible than the latter, these properties remain very close, which allows a first approach to EVA125 via this EVA100 Profoam.
Perfect for armor of little or medium volume, whether for cosplay or Live Action Role Playing Games.
Popularized between 2015 and 2023 in Europe, it is now exclusive to Cosplay & Craft.
Density: 100Kg/m3 Profoam

EVA125 is the oldest high density foam supplied by Cosplay & Craft, available in 2 colors, it is very easily thermoformable, sandable, offers high resistance and good flexibility and is almost untearable with bare hands. It is the "Rolls Royce" of foams and all those who have worked with it are full of praise for it. To try it is to adopt it, it offers a very wide range of uses from fine or massive armor to stage accessories, including sets, internal structures and many other possibilities.
Density: 125Kg/m3

Eva UHD for Ultra High Density is a foam with a density of approximately 170kg/m3. Its strength resists in its average flexibility but its extreme resistance allows it to stiffen at high thickness or to reinforce at low thickness. Tear-proof, able to withstand the most extreme constraints, it remains however heavier than its sisters and requires a certain experience for the handling. It excels in the pieces of armor having to support other elements without deforming or to stiffen a piece by being glued on the external part of a foam of lower density, allowing to have an optimal comfort of wear and an excellent external resistance that one can finely engrave or texture with a pyrographer.
Density: approx. 170kg/m3
Flexibility:

Eva Leather is an ultra high density eva foam of 270kg/m3. As its name suggests, it aims to be an alternative to the use of leather by being cheaper than the latter, more resistant and insensitive to external aggressions such as rain or sun.
Thermoformable, it can be worked with the same tools as leather and offers good flexibility despite its density. It is a Cosplay & Craft exclusive unique in Europe.
Density: 270 kg/m3
Flexibility:
Resistance:
Obviously the flexibility of the foams is really demonstrative for thicknesses ranging from 5 to 10mm. The 2 or 3mm foams have a fairly similar flexibility, although it is obvious that it will be easier to fold a 2mm EVA45 than a 2mm EVA UHD.
